Probably degrading from the heat if you feel it there while its charging its quite warm. The UV light and other factors like air quality and others turn the colour of plastics and other materials over time. I ended up just rubbing the yellow out with some eraser I had on my desk and it worked out perfectly.

It is because of the light colour of the plastics. Eventually the plastic will peel back and it will be a metal strand coil thing then that will eventually tear and it will be the small inner cord with the guts. The whole point of the power supply detecting a problem is so that it does not get hot enough to cause a fire. Mine looks the same.
